About Declyn's Dream

Declyn’s Dream is a community-led initiative focused on creating an inclusive, accessible playground at Shenango Community Park in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.

The project was inspired by Declyn, a local child whose experiences highlighted the need for a play space where children of all abilities can safely play together. Traditional playgrounds often create physical or sensory barriers for children with mobility challenges, developmental differences, or medical conditions. Declyn’s Dream aims to remove those barriers.

Core purpose

• Build a fully accessible playground with adaptive equipment

• Provide a welcoming space for children with disabilities and their families

• Encourage inclusive play that supports social development and confidence

• Strengthen community awareness around accessibility and belonging

What makes the playground different

Planned features typically include:

• Wheelchair-accessible surfaces and ramps

• Adaptive swings and sensory play elements

• Ground-level activities for varied mobility levels

• Safe, thoughtfully designed layouts for supervision and comfort

Community impact

The project represents more than a playground. It is a symbol of community compassion and collaboration, supported by local volunteers, leadership programs, fundraising events, sponsors, and civic organizations working together to improve quality of life for families across the region.
