About Us

Established in 1796 Wampum is the oldest Borough in Lawrence County. Located just 35 miles from Pittsburgh and 17 miles from Cranberry Township. Wampum is nestled in a wooded valley along the Beaver River. Like many 18th Century Towns Wampum was designed on a grid system with the Main Street being the Center. Several Church Steeples are visible when approaching town from several vantage points. Because of its age and location Wampum was once a hub for several train lines. This has become an asset for train enthusiasts who come to watch and take pictures of passing trains.

Part of the National Park System The North Country Trail intersects with Main Street. The Bevington Boat Launch is located just across the Main Street Bridge. With the Boat Launch and improved fishing the Beaver River is becoming known for its beauty and recreational opportunities. Many canoeing groups have recently utilized the River. Plans are being made to expand the Rivers potential and connect to the “Beaver River Water Trail.

The Community Park is situated on 11 acres and is equipped with two picnic shelters. There is also new playground equipment, baseball fields, basketball, tennis courts, and modern restrooms. The Wampum Recreation Center has a regulation basketball court located on Main Street and is available for rent daily. Located on the South end of town is the 350 acre “Mines in the Meadow”ATV Park.

Although a small community Wampum has many of the same amenities of a much larger town including its own Electric, Water, and Sewer Utilities, and Street, Police and Fire Departments.
